How fast the weeks are rolling past, what's been going on this week - we'll show ya!

We are so happy to be stocking 'Bit of Skirt' skirts by local Mildura ladies Rowena and Michelle. They are super comfy to wear and the cheerful prints, pockets, exposed zippers and pretty colours are bound to keep a smile on your face.

Making time to make stuff

As much as we love to craft, when it comes down to it - we procrastinate. We clean, look at blogs, magazines and books for 'inspiration', watch bad tv and then get frustrated as to where all the time has gone and why haven't I finished that quilt from 3 years ago or the granny square blanket from last winter?

Well, the times they are a changin........

Still not completed granny square blanket but well on it's way, may actually be in use this winter! Multi tasking at it's finest.....

The Very Hungry Caterpillar quilt completed! One child very happy, just need to make two more now for other green eyed monsters!

New uniforms for us in the planning stages.....

I think we deserve Nigella's chocolate brownie after those efforts!

Our yummy lunch yesterday.....

Quinoa salad with roasted pumpkin, sweet potato and zucchini, pine nuts, caramelised onions, mint and sweet white nectarines...we had the same today but added feta and pear.

Then for sweets a cappuccino and orange cream biscuit - YUM!

If you haven't tried quinoa before, maybe you could add it to your shopping list, it is really good for you and just as easy as cooking up rice and it is very tasty!

We aren't serving up lunches at Fine & Sunny, just wanted to share, however you can most definitely have the coffee and bickie!

Hi everyone! Did you all have a spectacular Christmas? We had a fantastic time in Cobar catching up with our family and eating...a lot... We did take our joggers, planning to walk the food off but all we managed was a walk around the block in thongs after an afternoon sleep!!

Well, it is the time of year for reflection so we would love to start by saying thank you so much to our lovely customers for your support this year, we have loved meeting so many NICE people, locals and visitors. We get a real kick out of hearing people say they love our store!

Our best bits of 2011, in no particular order...
- Celebrating our first birthday! A big achievement for small businesses
- Changing the shop around to create our cafe corner
- Visiting Melbourne for Finders Keepers markets and Adelaide for Bowerbird Bazaar
- Having a super busy shop with the lead up to Christmas
- Learning how to crochet and hosting Curious Crafters crochet classes
- Seeing our advertisement in Frankie magazine
- Hosting World Wide Knitting in public day and raising $220 for Sunraysia Cancer Resources by raffling the blanket that was made
- Calling Charlotte our Christmas giveaway winner on Christmas eve to tell her she had won!
- Dealing with such lovely stockists and getting to meet them for reals at markets and trade fairs
- Growing friendships with the peeps that visit our shop

Because I am so cool and stay home most Fridays nights, I get to watch my guilty pleasure TV show, So You Think You Can Dance (I already said I was cool). Tonight one of the songs they danced to was Angus & Julia Stone's version of 'You're the one that I want' from the musical Grease. How did I miss this when it first came out???
I have found a live recording, Julia has a little Dolly Parton sound going on and Angus may be singing but I can't hear him through all that beard and hair. Enjoy! Happy weekending!

Happy weekend people!
I was searching youtube for happy funky songs and this is what I came up with. I love this song and clip, it really brings back happy memories of coming home from the pub and watching and dancing to RAGE, yep the cool stuff I got to do before kids.

Some exciting things are happening at Fine & Sunny in the coming weeks. We are about to wow you all with our christmas decorations and we may have something super cool to put in our window this year.... We are also planning an evening of fun in store where you can fill in your "favourites file", which your loved ones can then use to buy you something you may actually want for Christmas!!
And don't forget the Fine & Sunny Cafe Corner where you can sit and enjoy delicious sweet treats made by us. New on the menu this week are Passionfruit Melting Moments and Spiced Jam Drops- YUM!

As promised here are the pic's from our trip to Adelaide, you may think from our photo's that we actually went to eat yummy food.....that is only partly true.

We made the trip to go to Bowerbird Bazaar, a design market that is held twice a year. They had a really good response for this market and the place was packed, hence the fact we don't have any photos of the lovely stall holders...oops.

We got to see some of our lovely stockists, Sunday Morning Designs, Delilah Devine, Paper Boat Press, Harvest Textiles, Ask Alice Stationary and Otto & Spike. We also spied a few newbies to us, which is very exciting.

Yeah! It's Friday! Today's film clip is song "What Do I Do" by Lanie Lane, this girl is everywhere you look and her new album is fantastic, she has a great voice.

This weekend we will be going on a road trip to Radelaide for design market Bowerbird Bazaar to mix with the creative folk, can't wait! Will take some pic's of our travels to share next week.

Guess what?? Next Tuesday 1st November is Fine & Sunny's 1st birthday! Unbelievable, the time has flown by.
As Tuesday is a public holiday in VIC for Melbourne Cup, we will be closed....however on Monday afternoon we will be having some drinks and nibbles and would love for our lovely customers to join us for a little celebration at Fine & Sunny from 5.30pm.

OMG! Look at that blanket

On the 11th of June, friends of Fine & Sunny gathered in the shop for World Wide Knit In Public Day.
The mission was set, knit a 15cm square in any colour/needle size/stitch to join and form a blanket.

Many cups of tea and yummy slices were consumed, friends made, new techniques learnt and we even sent a lovely lady off to do some knitting while she had a pedicure!

The day was a great success with 48 squares in total, including donations from people who could not attend.

We decided that we would raffle the blanket off as a prize with all proceeds going to Sunraysia Cancer Resources, who help provide information and support for people living with cancer.

Tickets cost $2.00 each and can be purchased at Fine & Sunny.
Raffle will be drawn on 11th July, 2011.

Did you know that we stock Mud Australia ceramics? You cannot open a lifestyle magazine these days without seeing some Mud ceramics modelling some yummy food....have a look for yourself, you will see that name pop up everywhere now! Each piece is made to order, handmade in their Sydney studio.

Although Mud Australia porcelain looks delicate it is actually pretty tough being oven, microwave and dishwasher safe!!!

Did you know that this Saturday 11th June is World Wide Knit In Public Day? It's time to bring you knitters out of your houses and into the light of day!
Fine & Sunny will be hosting a morning tea this Saturday from 10am and are asking you bring along some yarn and needles to knit a 15cm square to donate. We will then join our squares to form a blanket which will be raffled off with proceeds going to Sunraysia Cancer Resources.

If you won't be in town and still want to take part you can always bring in a 15cm square to the shop!

We will also be offering a 20% discount on our learn to knit kits for Saturday 11th June only.

Hope you are all enjoying your Easter break! We have had a few great days in the shop, Mildura has been a hive of activity.

Here's a yummy recipe to share (or not) with your peeps, courtesy of Indigo and Quince.

Peanut Butter Balls Baby

1 Cup Crunchy Peanut Butter
1/4 Cup Butter
1 1/2 Cups Icing Sugar
1 1/2 Cups Rice Bubbles
200g Chocolate
15g Copha

Melt the peanut butter and butter in a saucepan on low heat and add to dry ingredients in a large bowl, mix until combined. Form into small balls and put on a tray into the freezer.

When balls are set/frozen, melt chocolate and copha in saucepan on low heat. Drop balls into chocolate, coat with chocolate and fish them out with two forks, put on tray and back into the freezer to set.

Enjoy!

We have just this week received shipment of our super cool knitwear from Otto & Spike - made in Melbourne. They have the nicest designs and use some crazy techniques to create the best looking scarves, gloves and beanies we have seen around!

A new magazine for Mildura

We had a night out on Monday just gone, we were like VIP guests at a new magazine launch!

Mildura Living launched their new mag, the Autumn edition and as we advertised with them we were so in....

We had a try of a few local wines and the yummiest nibbles, we even done a bit of networking!!

If you see the new mag around it is worth a look, it has lots of goings on in it for the Sunraysia area, some beautiful snaps and yummy looking Easter recipes (we definitely want to make the dark Chocolate, Pistachio and Sun muscat torte). We also really enjoyed the articles on local artist Anne McMaster and Pepa's Cafe.

Curious Crafter Crochet Class - Crikey!

The class was a great success, everything we were hoping for and more! The night kicked off with inspirational teacher Sophie taking the class through the basics and then the curious crafters hooked in (pun totally intended) and with a little gentle guidance EVERYONE left with a granny square that they made themselves!

So nice to get together with such a great bunch of ladies, learn something new, make new friends, have a cuppa and a bite to eat - what could be better really?

Big thanks to Renea and Sophie for their help in organising and teaching the class and being such nice people and lovely friends - this is the start of something great.

We are very excited to announce that we are hosting a crafty crochet class at Fine & Sunny in two weeks time!

Your bike could look this good!

We would like to invite you to learn how to crochet a granny square! We have sent out an email to everyone on our friends of Fine & Sunny email listing so places are filling up very quickly....however there are a few left. So don't dilly dally and let us know if you want in!!!

Details are as follows:

Date: Thursday 24th March 2011

Time: 6.30pm arrive for 7pm start (finish around 9pm)

Venue: Fine & Sunny - Shop 7 141 Eighth St Mildura VIC

Cost: $10 includes yarn, crochet hook, tutorial and cuppa

Lookie what we have here.......some new knitting kits from Olive and Me have arrived at Fine & Sunny and they look excellent!

We have a few different types available for newbie knitters to nifty knitters in a range of super hot colours such as pesto, charcoal marle, kiwi fruit, hot rose, mustard, chocolate and ruby red.

The kits include everything you need to create a unique hand knitted little beauty - yarn, bamboo needles, easy to follow instructions, blunt wool needle and a cool printed knitknit calico bag to keep it all together!

New in the shop Mae fabric wall stickers in lots of great designs!
The stickers can be moved around - scrunched up, smoothed out and rearranged again and again.

We will also be stocking their beautiful wrapping paper - you can frame it, wrap it, cover books or use for paper crafts.

As well as being quite good looking, fun and unique, Mae are always doing their best to be kind to the environment, always supporting local Australian businesses.
